The Socio-economic, Social, and Cultural Value of Kulturværftet

Where culture meets impact – uncover how Helsingør’s waterfront icon drives local pride and tourism

Background

Since its opening in 2010, Kulturværftet in Helsingør has served as a cultural landmark for the city and the surrounding area. In addition to housing the Helsingør Library, the waterfront buildings near Kronborg Castle provide the setting for both large and small concerts, theatre performances, and various events.
Silverlining Research has therefore developed a comprehensive analysis that identifies key figures, estimates socio-economic effects, assesses perceived value, and maps out the experiences of key stakeholders with Kulturværftet in its current form.
The purpose of the analysis has been to establish a solid data foundation to support the strategic development of Kulturværftet going forward.

Method

Silverlining Research conducted a survey with residents in North Zealand, aiming to uncover their experiences with Kulturværftet and the perceived value based on the CVM model. In parallel, a smaller awareness survey was carried out in Helsingborg Municipality in Sweden, and in-depth interviews were conducted with 10 key stakeholders to gain qualitative insights.
In addition to the CVM model, we also developed an economic estimate illustrating Kulturværftet’s contribution to Helsingør Municipality, including direct contributions as well as indirect tax revenues, tourism turnover, and other economic effects.

Results

The analysis shows that Kulturværftet holds high perceived value among local residents and has strong potential to further increase public awareness. The economic calculations also indicate that Kulturværftet makes a positive contribution to Helsingør Municipality through both tourism and local tax revenues.
