Music City Aarhus 2022 – The value of music for the citizens of Aarhus

Insight into knowledge of and participation in music events in Aarhus and the importance of music for well-being in the city.

Background


Music City Aarhus 2022 was an event devoted to celebrating music for an entire year through various concerts and music happenings.

The event was made to celebrate and strengthen the identity of Aarhus as a music city and to please the citizens and music professionals living in Aarhus. Moreover, Music City Aarhus was to function as leverage to the music community in Aarhus and establish a music legacy from which Aarhus’ brand as a music city could be developed and expanded. 

Method
 

To evaluate if the initiative succeeded with the outlined targets, Silverlining Research performed a quantitative analysis for Music City Aarhus 2022. The analysis was conducted by use of panel data in which the survey was distributed to citizens in Aarhus and the city’s surrounding municipalities.

 

Impact
 
The analysis showcased the average music consumption in Aarhus, the citizens’ preferred music genres and platforms, awareness of and participation in the event, music’s value for the citizens’ well-being and perception of Aarhus city, and the social value of music. 

The results of the analysis were later used in the reporting and the public communication about the effects of the events. The results were also used strategically in the planning and the execution of music events in Aarhus.
