Attitudes Towards Immigration in Denmark

Silverlining Research is collaborating with researchers from the University of Michigan on a major study about attitudes towards refugees.

Background

Since the refugee crisis in 2015, the issue of immigration has become a hot topic both in the media and among citizens, but especially in the world of research.

Silverlining Research has assisted researchers from University of Michigan in a large international research project. The project aims to gain knowledge about how citizens in different countries assess refugees arriving in their country.

In addition to our knowledge and insights into the Danish population and the Danish language, we have also contributed with professional expertise on survey experiments, with a particular focus on conjoint experiments.

Method

Silverlining Research has conducted a quantitative data collection with over 3,000 respondents from the Danish population. In addition to answering a wide range of questions, the respondents are also participating in a conjoint experiment. In the experiment, respondents are being presented with two fictitious refugees with varying characteristics. Afterwards, respondents provide an overall evaluation of which refugee they prefer to grant entry permits to Denmark, as well as their attitudes toward the refugees, respectively.

Results

With data from the survey and conjoint experiment, it is possible to gain deep and nuanced insights into which characteristics matter for Danes in their evaluation of refugees. The results of this research can thus contribute to the existing literature on the subject and expand our understanding of how Danes form attitudes towards refugees.
